21 South steps up at YorKitchen

Howard Cantor is like the ghost of chain-restaurant menus and pre-packaged foods...As a "food technologist" at a Baltimore company, Cantor spends his days whipping up unique flavor combinations for the global food industry. It's a cool job, Cantor said, because it allows him to "feed the masses."

But the York City man's name won't be found on any wrappers.

Next step: Cantor, 42, is taking 21 South a step further. In April, he hosted the first dinner at YorKitchen, a for-rent commercial kitchen and dining facility housed in York City's Central Market.

"This awards me the ability to cook and make things look nice on a plate and really kind of take things a step beyond where most people would be willing to go," he said.

Cantor plans to continue the monthly "pop-up" dinner tradition at YorKitchen, where he can host more people and take advantage of the facility's extensive resources.

Twelve tickets for the May dinner are already sold out.

Future dates include June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept.14 and Oct. 12. Tickets for the six-course dinners cost $60-$70. More information is available on the 21 South website at www.21southyork.com.
